Anyways, on to more important things: Florence! This was getting near the end of our trip and so we were all looking forward to not "doing" so many things. This included admiring really amazing views, sipping on wine, breathing in the fresh Italian air, and enjoying life. This all became a reality for us. Sometimes life just gets too hectic and we all need to step back and remember the simpler things. When was the last time you tried that? Let's just say, Europeans know how to "enjoy the moment" (even when it is every. single. moment. of. every. single. day.). See what Italy has turned me into??
We saw the different sites of Florence but probably spent more of our time in the atmosphere of Florence and with the Italians. And, let me tell you, they are quite the interesting group of people with their fashions, their attitudes and what-not.
The Duomo
The streets of Florence
FAKE David. Tricky Italians! The real one is in a museum.
John, Debbie and I also spent a day in Pisa and Lucca which means we spent a day in Lucca because upon getting to Pisa, we ran to the tower, took a picture (not even a cool one either!) and ran (literally) back to the train station where we boarded a train just as it was about to leave to make it to Lucca.
But THEN we got to Lucca where I had heard nothing but goods things about this small Italian town. Little did we know that a comic book festival would bring all the interesting characters out (pardon the pun). We ran into those people the entire day. At first, we were confused. It wasn't Halloween yet, but it was almost time for that. Did they dress up early in Europe? No, they just dress up for comic book festivals. I for one have never been a fan of such things, so naturally I don't understand why such dressing up goes on. However, I am an advocate for anything that involves dressing up for occasions in your favorite whatever. Needless to say, I give them kudos for creativity but thumbs down for interrupting my perfect day in Lucca. Don't they know that I was the most important person there that day. (Sorry, my narcissism comes out every now and again. For some readers that don't understand my humor, please note that I am being sarcastic.)
Yet, we didn't let that ruin our fun! We still got to do some great things that lifted my moods: bike-riding along the wall, eating really good food, seeing a tower with trees on the top, and getting away from the bustle of the bigger city.
Some buildings
A nice view
Can I just note that this is a Lamborghini and a police car...Does anyone else think that shouldn't be happening?
Debbie and I riding our bikes along the wall. I was so happy at that moment. I kept singing that song from Wedding Crashers: "In the summertime, when the living is easy..."
The tower with the trees on top and a great view
The rest of our time in Florence included market shopping along with other odds 'n ends. My parents went on a bike tour (said it was fantastic) and took a cooking class. I am going to make them reenact the entire 6 course meal when I return home, so get ready, parental units.
I headed back a few days early to get some stuff and wash my clothes before I left again. I had a fantastic time with my family where quality bonding was at an all-time high. No matter how much we bug the crap out of each other, we still love each other.....but if anyone wants to adopt me, I am still open to the idea. Just kidding!! :) It really was awesome to have everyone there. It was a nice break-up in my adventures. These last few weeks are already flying by. Before I know it, I will back in the States bickering with them about the silliest things that families seem to fight about!
